About Me
Biography
I grew up in Philadelphia, PA, where I attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls and the University of Pennsylvania. I married Dr. Noah Freedman in 1988, and we've now been married for 36 years. He is a psychiatrist who currently has a telehealth practice in New Mexico and New York. While raising our children, we both completed our professional training and gained valuable work experience in the field. In 2001 we started our own group mental health practice in Drexel Hill, PA, "Psych Choices of the Delaware Valley."
I managed Psych Choices while continuing to see a full-time caseload of couples and individuals. In 2016, we moved to the beautiful state of New Mexico, where we opened our individual private practices in Santa Fe, and completed the process of selling the Drexel Hill group to one of our therapists.
We have three adult children between us, two daughters and one son. When our first granddaughter was born in 2021 to our older daughter, we decided to move back to the East Coast to be near her. We now live in Queens, New York to be near our granddaughter, daughter and son-in-law. We do miss the awe-inspiring sunsets and our good friends in New Mexico. But we are now enjoying the diversity and warmth of New York, where we are near to family and to our old and new friends, both here and in Pennsylvania.
Training and Education
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I am now licensed to practice in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico.
I have a Master's degree in Human Sexuality Education (University of Pennsylvania, 1988). I did most of my clinical (therapy) training at the Family Institute of Philadelphia (1996-99). This post-graduate school, founded in 1964, has since closed, but was accredited by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Since my graduation in 1999, I have taken countless courses and training sessions which enhanced my knowledge of communication skills, sexuality, infidelity, anxiety, trauma, and depression. I now have 25 years of experience in the field.
I am certified as a Sex Therapist by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). I have also studied extensively the modalities of short-term dynamic psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, EMDR therapy for trauma, and solution-focused brief therapy, as well as Discernment Counseling for couples considering divorce.
Most of my practice at this time is virtual (using the Zoom Professional HIPAA-compliant platform). I also have an in-person practice in Forest Hills (Queens), New York.
